At an early age, Piet started working in the factory.
Due to the worldwide interest in the services of Piet's company, she significantly expanded their production line. His role changed from practical work to managing an international company.
Piet was looking for a hobby where he could work with his hands. In the newspaper, he came across an article by a lawyer from Venlo, who had restored his own English sports car. He got inspired and thought: I want this too.
In 1987, Piet bought his first wreck in the Netherlands: an Austin Healey.
Piet once started restoring one Austin Healey, purely out of interest in the brand and the classic lines. As he delved further into Austin Healey's history, he discovered that roughly five major models were produced. What started with one car ultimately became a mission to restore and bring all five models together. All five models can now be admired in the Art of Cars Collection, each with their own story and character.
Raoul San Giorgi is a good friend who also recommends the famous Louwman museum. His advice to Piet: “Stop restoring Austin Healey's and start doing the real work!” With this advice, Piet looked for projects whose restorations would also be financially interesting. The first project that followed was an Aston Martin DB2 MKIII.
